Cost/Benefit Ratios - Updated Earth Science Standard
West Virginia Content Standard Objectives for Earth Science 11th-12th Grade SC.O.E.2.28
"Research alternative energy sources and evaluate the ecological, environmental and economic cost-benefit ratio."
Identify how you could integrate global perspectives/competencies into the standard.
Global perspectives could be integrated by researching and analyzing alternative energy source usage in other countries. Students could compare and contrast these and investigate reasons for the variations.
Explain specific lesson plan modifications for the standard in order to demonstrate global perspectives/competencies (indicate which global competencies you are targeting)

- Research alternative energy usage in another country; each group selects a country in a different region. (Investigate the World; Recognize Perspectives)
- Design and carry out an experiment to determine if the predominate alternative energy source in another country would be feasible locally. (Recognizing Perspectives; Taking
Action) - Debate the pros and cons of promoting this energy source locally.( Recognizing Perspectives; Communicate Ideas
Summative assessment
Select a source of alternative energy and create a presentation to share with your local government officials in which you call on them to seek grant funding to initiate (or expand) the use of this source locally. Use international examples and data as evidence of the potential from this source.
